Roberto Olivan

Companhia Instável invited choreographer Roberto Olivan to create and direct a choreography for TIMBER, a new performance produced by Companhia Instável and coproduced by Theatro Circo, with music from Michael Gordon played alive by Drumming GP. TIMBER is a reflection of what is happening in every corner of the world, the sociocultural and ideological changes inevitable in our times. The performance was prepared during an intensive seven weeks period between September and November 2019, concluding with the premiere. Companhia Instável’s objective is to raise professional opportunities to contemporary dance performers. With one annual project since 1998, it aims at associating the unbalance and uncertainty connected to contemporary art to the need of stability and solidity required for a company. “Drumming – Percussion group” synthesises the evolution of erudite percussion in Portugal and western culture. Its singular programming sums up its own repertoire, contemporary music, rock-jazz-world music, music for theatre scenes, opera and ballet dance.

The reality exceeded our expectations when we saw that more people than expected were showing up at Teatro Circo Braga on the day of the premiere. This is why we think that there’s a possibility for this show to tour as any other professional piece.
