Corona statement by the consortium.
The current situation caused by the corona pandemic forces us to think differently about international mobility. The meaning of mobility has to reinvent itself within the new normal, acknowledging digital work, quickly changing country codes, quarantine rules and the temporary closing of borders, regions or specific areas. The current regulations have a huge impact on cultural life as we know it, and specifically on cultural practitioners. Safety must prevail, of course. However, the cultural sector has been hit hard in its core business with hundreds of thousands of artists, creators and cultural professionals having lost income from one day to another. Even in times of crisis it should be possible for people to perform their job. For some, this job includes travel. For many in the cultural sector, mobility is more necessary than ever, but also more challenging than ever. Therefore, the consortium that manages i-Portunus decided to continue to offer international mobility, where and when possible. We believe that providing financial support to artists, creators and cultural professionals, via a mobility scheme where they can apply directly based on their needs, will help them to continue to work.
Covid 19 exceptions in the i-Portunus mobility scheme
If, due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, the artist/creator/cultural professional is unable to travel to the planned destination, he/she can resort to one of the following options, in the following order:
- postpone the mobility: grantees have the possibility to travel until November 2021.
- Change of destination: the artist/creator/cultural professional can change his/her destination.
- Blended mobility: virtual international collaboration with the destination country, or other forms such as remote residency, virtual mobility.
